SEO Tips That Work

When it comes to SEO, there have been a lot of changes in the last few years alone that can drive anyone ranking websites crazy.

A lot of people resort to Pay Per Click or Sponsored Ads, but that can get expensive in the long run.

The good news is I am going to give you my top 11 SEO tips that will keep you ranking long term.  I personally never have lost any major rankings when Google did their algorithm updates, in fact, my rankings have been improving month to month in general.

SEO Tip #1  – Do Proper Keyword Research

I see a lot of websites that optimize their websites for the wrong search terms.  To be honest, a lot of people rank for keywords that aren’t even being searched.

The best kind of keywords are usually some kind of product review because these people who are searching are looking for something to buy or join.

For example, let’s say you want to rank for make money online, it will be very difficult to rank for that keyword.

What you want to do is find products or services in that niche and rank for those instead.

For example, “Best marketing tools 2016” or “How to Collect more leads” are great keywords that are much easier to rank for.

You can also rank for companies or services in that niche as well, which is a lot easier.

For example, “Digital Altitude Review” is much easier to rank for compared to “make money online”.

SEO Tip # 2 – Spy on Your Competitors

To spy on what your competitors are doing to rank on Google, you must look at a few metrics.  Google only puts the highest relevant sites at top that have good quality incoming back links, great content and social signals like people sharing on Social Media etc. Google also looks for if your website is an Authority in your niche.

This is done by checking for incoming links from other authority websites.

Easiest way to do this is get the “MOZ” toolbar for Chrome.  All you should do is search for a key term you want to rank for and see what comes up on the first page of Google.

The MOZ bar will check its “Domain Authority” (DA) and “Page Authority” (PA) out of 100, it will also show you how many back links the website has for that page.

If you see too many websites with DA and PA of 50+, then it will be a hard keyword to rank for right off the bat. Check for websites that are under 30 in general on the first page and if you see many, you are good to go.

SEO Tip 3:  Write quality content that is linkable or sharable.

When you write content, make sure your visitors are getting value and the content is sharable and linkable by other websites in your niche.

Don’t just write articles for the search engine, they should always be for the end user.

Some of the things to look for when writing your content is the following:

  1. The content is useful
  2. The content is original
  3. You can’t help but link to it
  4. There are supportive facts and references
  5. There’s enough detail that nobody can memorize it
  6. Something fun or interesting is included (like video)
  7. It’s not just blah, blah, blah, content
  8. There’s enough call to action to invoke engagement
  9. There are visual examples, charts, and references
  10. You had multiple contributors who all link to the content
  11. You thank or compliment someone who shares it with others
  12. You have an offer, discount, or promotion included
  13. How To’s and tutorials are a great way to get people to link
  14. Create a controversy
  15. Answer questions
  16. Conduct research & discuss the results
  17. Get involved with social media
  18. Create lists (Top 10 Link Building Techniques, etc)
  19. Get a blog and establish yourself as an authority
  20. Run a service or create a product (ie: Firefox extension)

SEO Tip #4 – Use WordPress

WordPress is one of the easiest website interfaces you can use today and Google just loves how WordPress websites are structured. This blog itself is built using WordPress!

In general, WordPress sites don’t need much SEO done to them from the get go, all you must do is make sure your pages are optimized properly for your keyword you are trying to rank for.

SEO Tip #5 – Use Proper SEO Plugins For WordPress

The best SEO plugin I have personally used is called Yoast SEO.

It will help you optimize your On-Page SEO to your keyword you want to rank for. It will tell you exactly how many times to mention your keyword throughout the body of the text.

In addition, it will tell you how to use your keyword in the Title, Meta description, and Sub-Topics in the body of your content.

It will also create a Site Map for you which Google can crawl with their bots.

This just means your content will be recognized faster once you publish a new page or post on your website.

SEO Tip #6 – Create Social Media Profiles For Your Website

Once your website is finished and you already have content on it, create social media profiles on Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest And YouTube.

You want to make sure your website is in your social media profiles and post new content on those platforms.

For example, if you created a page on your website, make sure you share it on your social media platforms asking people to like, share and comment on your content.

This is a great way to drive traffic to your website and Google loves social signals for ranking.

SEO Tip #7 – Build Back Links

Once you have your website ready to go with proper on-page SEO and social signals, now it’s time for building back links.

If your content is good, other websites will naturally will link to your content which will get you easy back links.

While that’s awesome, it can take some times so it’s always a good idea to build some of your own.

The best thing to do is open accounts on Web 2.0 websites like WordPress.com, Tumblr, Blogger, Weebly and Wix.com

You create content on these sites and link them back to the content you want to rank for.

I know that sounds like a lot of work, but you can find writers on Fiverr.com for cheap to help with this part. The content doesn’t have to be amazing or anything like that.

If it’s 100% unique, you are good to go and your website will start getting link juice from those websites.

SEO Tip #8 – Use Proper Anchor Texts

When you are linking back to your site with those Web 2.0 websites, make sure you use the keyword you are trying to rank for as the anchor text.

You can use the exact match keyword several times, but after that mix it up by linking to the actual URL of the website and generic keywords like “Click Here”, “Check This out” etc.

SEO Tip #9 – Use Social Shares On Web 2.0 Sites

Remember how we made social profiles for our main website, now you should do the same for your Web 2.0 sites for extra juice.

In other words, this will supercharge your Web 2.0 sites that are linking back to your website which will increase overall ranking on Google.

You don’t have to do this on your own, just find someone on UpWork.com or Fiverr.com to do it all for you.

SEO Tip #10 – Guest Post On Other Websites

Find websites in your niche and ask the owner if you can write a piece of quality content linking back to your website.

You can usually just find their contact information under the “Contact Us’ tab.

Just make sure you write a good article full of value because authority websites are very strict on their content.

A backlink from a powerful site is worth its weight in gold.

SEO Tip #11 – Be Patient

At the end of the day, Google can take weeks or even months to rank your content when you are following these SEO tips.

When I first got started going SEO, it literally took 3 months to see any kind of result, it’s just how it works on Google.

Once your website starts building authority through good content and quality back links, you can rank much faster and sometimes even land on the first page without any back links.
